Book

I'm going to start writing a book. While in Europe I'll gather more ideas. I'm making character concepts right now, getting visuals down.

The book will take place in a fictional world where there's limited technology. In a time where superstition is held with great regard, those who fight for power do so with swords and bows, asking their gods for protection from the opposing sides.

The story focuses on two primary groups. The first is the Duchy of Kartha. Kartha is a rich land, granted to Kent vos Kartha, the Duke. He tries to run his land fairly but has incurred the wrath of a nearby tribe. Not knowing how to deal with them, the situation quickly tumbles into all out war, eventually forcing the small tribe to call in reinforcements from their mother clan, The Poisoned Blade, led by an aged, ruthless man who calls himself The Crimson Juggernaut.

While all of this is happening the townspeople of Feldspar, the city surrounding Castle Kartha, and the local tribe, suffer under the continual barrage of politics, arrows and death as their leaders focus more on killing each other than anything else.

Awesome.

You take a good thing, and you think you've got it all figured out. And then you add a woman, and her fucking period, and bam, it's all gone. Awesome. Whatever, just what I need, more proof that I hate women, and that they are insane, and don't know what they want, and that if it weren't for their childbearing abilities we would have hunted them to extinction like other animals.

Fallout New Vegas

Warning, lot and lots of nerdy stuff ahead.

:) So, I finished my first playthrough of New Vegas. I'm normally a completionist, but this time I didn't even get to level 30. Still, I did to a lot, helped a lot of people, and ended up creating a free and independent New Vegas. Yaaay. As I played the game, though, I found that I was drawn much more to the characters than I had been last game (Fallout 3). While there are several reasons for this, I found that the voice actors were simply top notch, so I'd like to go over some of them. Some of them may surprise you. Some of them will instantly brand me as a nerd because I recognized them myself.

1)[Felicia Day]
If you haven't heard of Felicia Day I suggest you educate yourself. :) Aside from her overall pale, redheaded, nerdy hotness, she's also an actress, singer and director. She created the hit online web series The Guild (fictionalized story about life in the world of MMORPGs) , stared in Dr. Horrible's Sing-A-Long Blog (A Musical Tragedy in a world where quasi-super people battle each other in hoaky, awesome ways) and also in The Legend of Neil (A short web series about a man who gets drunk while playing The Legend of Zelda, and finds himself within the land of Hyrule). Additionally she will be in the upcoming web series Dragon Age: Redemption. If you're a big DA fan (Gabby :P ) you'll either be chomping at the bit for this, or you already know about it. ;)

Within New Vegas she voices the spirited Brotherhood of Steel companion, Veronica. In the interest of spoilers, I won't say much else except that she plays a sexy power armor-wearing, face-punching lesbian quite well.

Obviously I've got quite the crush on Felicia, so I think I have the most information about her. What can I say, she's amazing.

2) [René Auberjonois]
This fellow voices the powerful leader of the New Vegas strip, Mr. House. While you may not recognize his name right away, some of my nerdier friends may remember him as the Changeling "Odo" in Star Trek Deep Space Nine. His interesting voice adds a lot of character to the almost stuffy Mr. House.

3) [Mathew Perry]
Many of you have watched Friends the hit 90's SitCom which raked in bafillionz of dollars. Mathew Perry played one of my favorite characters in Friends (second to Courteney Cox, rawr) and is a hilarious person off-screen and on screen. Perry admitted to being a huge fan of Fallout 3, so he was given an integral part in New Vegas. Way to go, man. Your accent was pretty good.

In New Vegas he returns to play another of my favorite characters. Although at first I didn't like him, since he shot me in the face and then buried me alive, I learned that I was just a pawn in a much larger scheme and he was just trying to free New Vegas from everything that was trying to keep it down. That's right, Perry plays the throwback to the 50's mafia greaser, Benny, the man in the checkered suit. Benny is a good guy deep down, but I'm sure many people felt the need to return the favor of being shot in the face by him.

4) [Wil Wheaton]
Further Delving into my nerdiness, we have Mr. X-Wesly Crusher from Star Trek TNG. He has done a number of other things as well, including playing as Fawkes in The Guild, Felicia Days characters temporary love interest. Wheaton has a certain cult following, and although I'm not really part of it, I have respect for the man.
Wheaton voiced all of the Robobrains found in the game. Not very glamorous, but I thought it was pretty hilarious. Way to go, Crusher.

5) [Michael Dorn]
What's this? Another name drudged from the annals of Star Trek? That's right, Dorn is back again. He originally played the always cheerful Klingon Worf from Star Trek, TNG. He also played in Mass Effect 2 as Gatatog Uvenk, the angry krogan unwilling to let Grunt in with the rest of the krogan. Dorn played football and is a big guy, able to likely squash most people, this is presented well in his intimidating, low voice. Scarrryy.

Voicing the Super Mutant from New Vegas, Marcus (who was in Fallout 2 as well), a super mutant completely willing to not kill people, Marcus runs the Ski Lodge renamed Jacobstown, where other super muties can be free from human oppression if they feel like it. Dorn also voiced the main boss of Fallout 2, Frank Horrigan.

6) [Ron Perlman]
Perlman is an incredible character actor. He general plays in tough guy roles and is likely most famous as Hell Boy.

Perlman has in every Fallout Game voiced the Narrator who Introduces the game, and then Concludes it's ending. War...War never changes.

7) [Wayne Newton]
I couldn't go without mentioning the man who wrote the famous sound where he sounded like a woman, Danke Schoen.

In New Vegas he voices the constant, classy voice of Mr. New Vegas over the radio, keeping you awake and entertained with classic songs like Big Iron.

Lastly, I have to mention Steve Blum and Liam O'Brien who are famous only as voice actors, and do an incredible job with the many smaller roles they play.
There are a lot of incredible voice actors in the game, and I'd like to talk about them all, but oh well.

Take your money

So, my cousin Ellie wants me to collaborate with her on an artistic project. She's already written a book, but she'd like me to do some sort of webcomic type deal with her.

She might be vastly underestimating my abilities, but no harm in trying.

I had some crazy shit to put in here.

Finding Me.

The Heartstone

EpiPrologue

Lo held her grandmothers necklace tightly in the palm of her hand. Her fingers were cramped, but she couldn't let go. Her knuckles were white, and a lesser woman would have crumpled over in a sobbing mess over the severe gash in her side.

Instead, all she could do was stare intently at what was in her other hand. It was an amazing jewel the size of a coconut, weighing at least seven or eight pounds. It was transparent with a beautiful red hue. Lumps of mud, vegetation and slime covered much of it, but despite the layer of filth, there was no doubting the truly glorious gem she held.

It seemed wrong, a sin, to have it covered in such a disgusting mess. She closed her eyes, at last she had what she came for. So many others had tried, but their intentions were less than admirable. The nearly impregnable fortress, the truly frightening guardians. Thinking about it reminded her that she had just been through a lot.

As she held the stone in her hand, the throbbing in her side stopped, and she felt suddenly lighter. She wasn't sure what it was, but it felt good, it felt...right.

She opened her eyes and looked about to find that she was still standing in the fortress. She peered at the trail of bodies she had left behind. They were not human, perhaps, but it certainly seemed a waste. After her discussions with each of the guardians, she had realized that they were only doing what they thought was best. They protected the gem at all costs. Most of them were obsessive, thinking only of the stone at all times. It was a sad fate for all in the fortress, but now the stone could be put to good use. She didn't know how exactly, but she could tell it would all work out now, that was just one of the many things she simply knew.

She knelt down on the ground and wiped the stone cleanly on the thick, green grass which had engulfed the entire platform where she was standing. No doubt some of Sententia's work. She hadn't noticed in her previous battle that the entire chamber was surrounded by a near endless grove of trees. It had been so bright in the area that she wouldn't have noticed them. She supposed that each tree likely meant something to poor Sententia. It was likely not best to dwell on him. Killing him had to be done, She would leave the grove as it was, and hopefully it would flourish even without it's protector.

Lo finally let go of the pendant. Her hand strained to return to grasping the air, the fresh indentations from gripping the pendant still worn into her fingers. She quickly placed the stone into her leather pouch. It was a tight fit, as she had estimated the stone to be much smaller, but at least it didn't look like it would fall out, it would be a tragedy to lose it due to clumsiness after all of this work.

Lo picked herself off her knees and took one last glance around the platform. It was an amazing feet of engineering or magic, or whatever. The forest around her, the white stone steps and entrance leading down. The intricate carvings on the stones seemed to tell a story of the stone, but she didn't bother trying to figure it out. She might feel better, (much, much better, even) but she still had several small wound and one very large wound that all needed treatments. The Blind Tree of Occulum stood in the center of the platform. All of the stories about the tree were right, which is surprising, considering no one had ever made it this far.

She speculated briefly to herself, wondering if perhaps...one of the guardians had told someone about the tree. It didn't matter she supposed. She looked at the white stones again, running her hand across them one last time before she descended back down the stairs. It was time to return home.
